These two children are refugees who fled to Zaatari camp in northern Jordan to escape the ongoing conflict in Syria. The International Rescue Committee supports thousands of Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq and works with local partners to deliver aid inside Syria. We provide medical aid, help women and girl victims of violence, and ensure refugees have access to their legal rights. more »

Malaysia is home to one of the largest urban refugee populations in the world. Refugees live in constant fear of arrest, abuse and detention; they struggle to find work and are at risk of exploitative employers. In a new report entitled, “In Search of Survival and Sanctuary in the City,” the IRC details the hardships faced by Burmese refugees living in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur. more »

When fire swept through the Ban Mae Surin camp on March 22, thirteen-year old Sha Nay Htoo’s immediate reaction was not to flee the flames, but to help rescue other refugees. Today, Sha Nay is lying in a hospital bed with third degree burns over most of his body. more »
