Heidi Lehman, the IRC's director of the gender-based violence unit, is in Haiti this month. She describes an IRC program that trains Haitian women to support victims of sexual violence in Teleco camp and other settlements where people displaced by the earthquake now live. more »

Food is scarce in Ethiopia, where most of the population lives in rural, drought-prone areas in a state of chronic poverty. In 2010, the Government of Ethiopia identified 5.2 million people in need of emergency food aid. Not surprisingly, this hunger crisis also impacts the thousands of refugees living just within Ethiopia’s borders. more »

I was in Haiti earlier this week, visiting IRC colleagues and learning about our programs. The earthquake harmed or destroyed a quarter of all schools in Haiti, leaving 2.5 million children out of school. The IRC and other groups have worked to ensure children are in temporary learning spaces. More, however, is needed... more »
