Two months ago, Jabadjie, a 16-month-old girl suffering from acute and severe malnutrition, was rushed to an IRC-supported clinic in Kati, a district in Mali. After a few weeks of intensive care and a feeding regimen of nutritionally fortified peanut paste and milk, Jabadjie showed signs of recovery. more »

Her entire life, Brigitte dreamt of the moment she would be able to spell her name. When she was a little girl, her parents separated and she was sent to live with an aunt and babysit her cousins. They all ended up going to school, but she was kept at home. more »

I first met Nyibol Akot Padiet, a volunteer community health provider, in southern Sudan on my very first assignment with the IRC in 2010. Since then South Sudan has seceded from Sudan -- becoming the world’s newest nation -- and Nyibol celebrated the birth of a new grandchild. more »
