The word ‘refugee’ brings to mind images of sprawling camps, with rows of white tents reaching out to the skyline. Yet the reality is that 1 in 2 refugees now live in an urban setting. Take Nairobi, the bustling capital city of Kenya, for example. It’s now home to tens of thousands of refugees. more »

The ideal situation is to keep kids in a familiar surrounding with family members or with others that they know and not to remove them from a familiar setting because this just can increase their distress and make it harder for them to recover ultimately. more »

A Pakistani woman named Mukhtar Mai made news around the world in 2002 when she took a group of men to court after they raped her in what they called “honor revenge” against her family because of something Mai’s brother had done. more »

Today is the 20th anniversary of the UN's Convention on the Rights of the Child. Only two countries have yet to join the global community in ratifying this important agreement that protects children: Somalia -- and the United States. Join the IRC in urging President Obama and Congress to ratify the convention without delay. more »
