Since the start of 2013, the IRC, working with Syrian partners, has opened up health clinics, provided clean water, launched schools and distributed medicine, blankets, plastic sheeting and other essential items to desperate Syrians. more »

At 23, Hamid was in medical school in Canada when war broke out in Syria. Today, he’s a veteran of frontline medicine. He returned to Syria when the war begin and now works at an IRC-supported field hospital in Aleppo. more »

This week marks one year since the IRC opened two primary health care centers in the Jordanian border cities of Mafraq and Ramtha. In that single year, close to 22,000 Syrian refugees have received checkups, pre- and post- natal care, and prescriptions for free medicine from local pharmacies. more »

At $5.2 billion, the total figure for Syria aid is staggering. It’s more than three times the size of the appeal for Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, and more than four times the size of the 2004 South Asian tsunami appeal. Of the $5 billion? $2.98 billion is earmarked for Syrian refugees, while $1.4 billion is to pay for in-country aid work. more »
