Fleeing famine, facing attacks -- Somali women need our help

The IRC's Elizabeth Pender testifies about violence against women and girls who are fleeing the famine in Somalia.

At a packed Congressional briefing on August 4, my colleague Elizabeth Pender, the International Rescue Committee's emergency technical advisor for women’s protection and empowerment, spoke about violence against women and girls who are fleeing the famine in Somalia.  

Liz spoke movingly about the attacks that women and girls experience as they trek for weeks through drought-ravaged land in search of food, health care and assistance in neighboring Kenya and Ethiopia. You can read her comments here.
