The IRC rescues lives -- you can too

Jamie Kelso ran a 10k race this summer to raise money for the International Rescue Committee. Photo: Sue Ellen Kelso . This summer, I ran a 10k race and raised money to help families whose lives have been turned upside down by conflict or disaster. You can help too.

iRescue is a new (just launched today!) do-it-yourself fundraising site where people like you can help the International Rescue Committee by raising money to support our work.

Your personal fundraising project can be anything you choose. You can organize a run or walk, request gifts to the IRC for your birthday, throw a party, or come up with other creative ideas.

You can set up your personal fundraising page in as little as 60 seconds. Visit iRescue and simply:

1. Pick your campaign.

2. Sign up and set your fundraising goal.

3. Customize your personal page with photos and stories to share with family and friends.

Then, you're ready to go!

We've also created a toolkit to help make it easy for you to spread the word.

From lifesaving aid like clean water and medicine, to ongoing support with education and employment, the IRC helps lead families on the long journey from harm to home. I hope you'll consider joining us.

Jamie Kelso is the IRC's online marketing manager. She is based in New York.
