“The New Kids”
January 27, 2012
By The IRC
This afternoon we were delighted to welcome journalist and author Brooke Hauser to the International Rescue Committee's headquarters office in New York. Hauser's first book, “The New Kids: Big Dreams and Brave Journeys at a High School for Immigrant Teens,” chronicles a year in the life of five students at the International High School in Brooklyn, NY.
Hauser joined James Lenton, executive director of the IRC's New York resettlement office, for a lively discussion about the journeys teenage refugees take as they make the transition to American public schools, and to American life.
New York Book Event
Sunday, January 29 at 1:30pm - Brooklyn Public Library: Brooke Hauser will be reading from "The New Kids" and taking part in a discussion to be moderated by the IRC's James Lenton. More information >
