New life in Bredjing / Chad
October 27, 2008 by Joanne Offer
Here’s another photo share from Joanne Offer in eastern Chad, where the International Rescue Committee helps around 60,000 Darfuri refugees in two camps as well as local communities: IRC midwife Annie Momadji Moungar holds baby Mariam who’s just three hours old. She was delivered by Annie in the IRC health center in Bredjing refugee camp, where the IRC offers vital services to pregnant women, including safe delivery, ante and post-natal care, and immunizations. Last month, the center saw 110 births compared with 58 women who gave birth at home. IRC staff like Annie are busy raising awareness of the benefits of giving birth at a well-equipped, well-staffed center where women can get good care and deliver in a safe environment. Given that Annie and her small team are already delivering around three babies a day, they’re going to have their work cut out! You can see all of Joanne's posts here.
