In previous posts, we followed the odyssey of Chet Nath, his wife, Uma, and their five-year old son Kushal as they began their new life in New York, following 17 years living in a camp for Bhutanese refugees in Nepal.  (You can read Part 1 here, and Part 2 here.)  In the latest series of photos by IRC volunteer Misha Cohen, we follow the family on their first full day in New York City as they learn to navigate their new home. I hope this beautiful family

I hope this beautiful family has found comfort in their new home...and I wish to relay to the family that I welcome them to this country with warmth and kindness. If I can help this particular family in any way, please let me know. I live in the area!

Great documentation, Misha!

Great documentation, Misha! My hat goes off to the IRC for assisting this family in what I'm sure was a difficult transition.

THe Lost Boys just came to

THe Lost Boys just came to our Hollywood High School. They are survivors but we wonder how they survived emotionally. Looking at these pictures saddens me to see so many more children in need of
nurturing...the 'animators' are amazing. It must take alot of strength and caring. After seeing th pix of the family in New York,
I'm wondering if we can 'foster' a "Lost Boy" in Los Angeles. The blog and pictures are very important to this story.

I really appreciate that the

I really appreciate that the photos show the details of confronting so many "firsts." It's so much more meaningful showing, rather than just telling what kind of help the IRC is providing. So far we've seen two dedicated volunteers (moving in and at the bank) involved in the case in only their first couple of days - a great testament to folks who wish to assist newcomers.

My heart is so happy for this

My heart is so happy for this family, knowing that the transition to the U.S. has to be more difficult than any of us can understand, but also more important and full of opportunity than most of us will really understand, either. The visual documentation immediately connects you with Chet Nath and his family. I am eager to continue to watch their life in the U.S. unfold and pray that they have nothing but success!

I an enjoying getting to know

I an enjoying getting to know this family!! It seems they are beginning to acclimate.
