Alinga Ekuru, a 35-year-old mother of eight, with her daughter Elamach Ekroi. Alinga lost almost all of her 50 goats to the worst drought to hit East Africa in decades. She told International Rescue Committee maternal and child health coordinator Milka Choge that she has no food at home and has been relying on milk from relatives' goats to feed her family.
Alinga walked four hours from her village to reach an IRC clinic, where Elamach was diagnosed with moderate acute malnutrition. IRC medical staff there gave the little girl nourishing food, micronutrient supplements and an appointment for a follow-up visit.
