At $5.2 billion, the total figure for Syria aid is staggering. It’s more than three times the size of the appeal for Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, and more than four times the size of the 2004 South Asian tsunami appeal. Of the $5 billion? $2.98 billion is earmarked for Syrian refugees, while $1.4 billion is to pay for in-country aid work. more »

Women who survive violence are often wracked with guilt and suffer blame unjustly projected upon them by their communities and society generally. With Cognitive Processing Therapy, I have learned to engage these women in discussions about guilt and its resulting emotions, and about how to overcome such feelings. more »

Violence against women and girls is a significant problem in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The results of a study published today in the New England Journal of Medicine show that overall trauma symptoms decreased roughly twice as much among survivors who received group therapy compared to those who did not. more »
