Soccer Without Borders

| David Beckham wasn't the only new arrival on the U.S. soccer scene this summer. Forty refugee kids from around the world who arrived in the country just weeks ago recently gathered at a field in Oakland, California, for six days of soccer drills, exercise and tournament-style games. Playing a familiar sport helps build a community and ease the transition to life in America. As Eugenia, a nine-year old refugee from Liberia said, “I want to give a shout out to all of us for showing up and playing our hardest and making new friends.” Photo Essay |
