Today is the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

Many refugees offered sanctuary in the United States have suffered great harm, including torture, says Aaron Grigg, the International Rescue Committee's interim executive director in Tucson.  Forced to flee because of war, political oppression and conflict, they cannot go home.

The IRC provides mental health services, referrals to medical and legal services, and other support to help survivors of torture and their families heal and rebuild their lives in their adopted country.

In a recent guest column for the Arizona Star, Grigg paid tribute to the resilience and strength of these refugees.
