Today is World Malaria Day. Half the world’s population is at risk for malaria, an epidemic illness that claims one child every 45 seconds. But preventing it is simple: if families sleep under mosquito nets, instances of malaria are reduced by as much as 90 percent. more »

I met 10-month-old Farhio Abdi Madey the day after she was admitted to the IRC’s ward for severely malnourished children in Hagadera, one of five refugee camps in the Dadaab complex. She weighed less than most newborns. more »
