Last fall, Nigeria experienced record floods that forced some 2 million from their homes. The IRC has been providing returning families with safe water and sanitation, basic household items, and agricultural aid essential to get farmers back on their feet in time for the next planting season. more »

These two children are refugees who fled to Zaatari camp in northern Jordan to escape the ongoing conflict in Syria. The International Rescue Committee supports thousands of Syrian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq and works with local partners to deliver aid inside Syria. When fire swept through the Ban Mae Surin camp on March 22, thirteen-year old Sha Nay Htoo’s immediate reaction was not to flee the flames, but to help rescue other refugees. Today, Sha Nay is lying in a hospital bed with third degree burns over most of his body. more »

The IRC is providing aid to survivors of a fire at a refugee camp in Thailand that killed 37 people on Friday. The fire destroyed hundreds of makeshift huts at Ban Mae Surin camp, which is home to some 3,500 ethnic Karen refugees who have fled ethnic conflict in neighboring Myanmar. The fire also destroyed the camp’s clinic and hospital. more »
