Cynics occasionally refer to Haiti as “the Republic of NGOs,” claiming that the country has lots of well-intentioned non-governmental organizations (NGOs) with little to show for their goodwill. Fair enough. But I’m not a cynic. I firmly believe that the vibrancy of local organizations in Haiti can and will translate into meaningful development for the country. more »

It's been nearly a year since I first arrived in Haiti to help lead the IRC's efforts to reunite children and families who were separated by the 2010 earthquake. Many thousands of children lost their parents in the disaster, and thousands more lost contact with their living relatives in the chaos that followed. more »

Baby Jenny Alexis was two months old when she was pulled alive from the rubble of her Port-au-Prince home four days after the devastating January 12, 2010 earthquake. Thought to be orphaned, Jenny was evacuated to a Southern Florida medical center for urgent treatment. more »
