Drought in the Sahel region of Africa could not come at a worse time for the nation of Mali. Its northern territory was forcibly taken over by insurgents early this year, and soon afterwards a coup displaced the country’s democratically elected government. more »

One year ago today, the United Nations declared famine in six areas of Somalia, the result of consecutive seasons of poor rains, failed crops and lost livestock. The IRC responded quickly, scaling up programs and supporting the most vulnerable communities. more »
