Germaine, a refugee from war-torn Republic of Congo, and her family were resettled by the IRC in Abilene, Texas, in 2007. With the goal of becoming a U.S. citizen, Germaine has enrolled in an IRC citizenship education program, studying English as a second language and American civics. more »

Bob Montgomery, the executive director of the IRC in San Diego, recently visited the White House as a "Champion of Change." While there, he participated in a round-table meeting with government officials and other Champion of Change awardees. He also recorded a video about the importance of equal treatment for all in this country -- whether foreign-born or not. more »

Congratulations to the IRC in San Diego on being the first refugee resettlement program to win an E Pluribus Unum Prize from the Migration Policy Institute. The award honors those who are working to strengthen relationships between native-born and foreign-born Americans and to help immigrant families succeed in the United States. more »

Problematic changes in the Supplemental Social Security Income program may cut off the incomes of vulnerable refugees. The IRC’s Bob Carey says the changes run “counter to the humanitarian principles” on which the U.S. accepted the refugees. more »
