Today is World Malaria Day. Half the world’s population is at risk for malaria, an epidemic illness that claims one child every 45 seconds. But preventing it is simple: if families sleep under mosquito nets, instances of malaria are reduced by as much as 90 percent. more »

Update Mar. 9, 2013: IRC emergency teams in Kenya remain on standby following today's announcement of the results of a tense presidential race. Monday's vote was the first since disputed 2007 national elections erupted into violence that killed 1,500 people. more »
