Tamam, an IRC health manager in Chad, sent on these images of a recent sandstorm that hit Bahai -- a desert outpost where we aid refugees from Darfur. They really show the remote and extreme conditions in which IRC staff sometimes work in order to bring humanitarian aid to people who need it the most. more »

I have been spending the last few days visiting refugee camps in northern Ethiopia with my wife Nancy, IRC board member Allen Moore, and the IRC’s country director in Ethiopia, David Murphy. The Women’s Refugee Commission traveled to Kenya’s Kakuma and Dadaab camps this summer. There they spoke with refugee women who risk being attacked when they leave the camps to collect firewood to cook food rations for their families. more »

Today is World AIDS Day. In Kenya, where the IRC assists refugees and local communities, HIV/AIDS hasn't been acknowledged as a problem in rural areas such as Turkana. more »
