I first met Abdallah Ibrahim Yare in Dadaab complex, home to 500,000 refugees, two years ago at the height of the famine in Somalia. He and his family, along with thousands of others, had trekked for days to Kenya in search of food and safety. more »

Approximately 50,000 people have fled renewed violence in Darfur, Sudan since January, according to U.N. estimates, many crossing the border into eastern Chad. The IRC is working to meet their desperate need for clean water. more »

This week marks one year since the IRC opened two primary health care centers in the Jordanian border cities of Mafraq and Ramtha. In that single year, close to 22,000 Syrian refugees have received checkups, pre- and post- natal care, and prescriptions for free medicine from local pharmacies. more »

The IRC in Kenya has been responding to a polio outbreak in the world’s largest refugee complex, Dadaab. The five camps in this sprawling complex house almost half a million refugees, mainly from Somalia. more »

At $5.2 billion, the total figure for Syria aid is staggering. It’s more than three times the size of the appeal for Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, and more than four times the size of the 2004 South Asian tsunami appeal. Of the $5 billion? $2.98 billion is earmarked for Syrian refugees, while $1.4 billion is to pay for in-country aid work. more »
