My colleagues and I are very pleased to introduce Rescue.org, the International Rescue Committee’s new website address. Starting today, Rescue.org replaces theIRC.org, which has been the IRC’s online address since 2000. more »

Congress may have been in recess, but two prestigious organizations used the dog days of summer to call attention to the tragic flooding in Pakistan and to appeal for greater amounts of relief aid. IRC leaders participated in both discussions. more »

One year ago the Pakistani military launched an offensive to drive Taliban militants from Pakistan’s Swat Valley. More than two million people fled the fighting, provoking a massive humanitarian crisis. Now, the worst floods in Pakistan’s history have created even greater destruction and displacement. more »

It was 70 years ago this week — August 4, 1940 — that the IRC’s Varian Fry boarded a transatlantic flight from LaGuardia Airport in New York on his way to German-occupied France on a mission to rescue 200 leading artists and intellectuals who were on the Nazis’ most-wanted list. more »

New photos from IRC staff members who are on the ground providing aid to victims of the worst flooding in Pakistan’s modern history. At least 1,400 people have been killed and three million people have been affected by the devastating monsoon rains. more »

Education is a key component of the IRC’s health programs. So staff recently gave a talk in Kakuma refugee camp on the medical complications surrounding pregnancy in young girls and female circumcision. One of the audience members – Somali refugee Kaho Ahmed Gesso – found the talk very welcome. more »
