Imagine if tomorrow people in the town where you live started getting suddenly and violently ill. You don’t know what’s wrong or how to help them. People are dying, sometimes within hours, because there’s no treatment available. And then the disease spreads to neighboring communities because no one knows how to stop it. more »

The IRC has worked in partnership with government agencies to rehabilitate water and sanitation systems at health clinics and youth centers and built latrines, showers, and safe water points in settlements for displaced people. more »

The unsanitary conditions in Port-au-Prince's tent settlements and slums are ripe for the spread of cholera. The IRC's Susana Ferreira shared these photos of our environmental health team treating water in camps where people don't have a safe supply. more »

The IRC’s Melissa Winkler is in Haiti to help earthquake survivors tell their stories and to document the IRC’s emergency work. She shared these photos from the shanty towns of Port-au-Prince, where a high concentration of people, paltry or non-existent sanitation and the buildup of waste pose a massive health threat. more »

Here are some new photos from Myanmar from Anne C. Richard, the IRC's vice president for government relations and advocacy. Anne recently returned from a visit to the Irawaddy Delta region, where the IRC has been assisting communities that were among those hit hardest by Cyclone Nargis. more »
