For the past few years, the coastal town of Hobyo in central Somalia made news for all the wrong reasons—hijackings of cargo ships at sea and kidnappings of foreigners on land. Despite the dangers, the IRC launched a primary health care program there this July. more »

One year ago today, the United Nations declared famine in six areas of Somalia, the result of consecutive seasons of poor rains, failed crops and lost livestock. The IRC responded quickly, scaling up programs and supporting the most vulnerable communities. more »
