Thanks to a tractor donated by a local church, refugee farmers in the IRC's New Roots program in Phoenix will be able to do their work in half the time and harvest twice as much land. more »

When refugees arrive in the United States, they leave behind everything familiar. For many that also means losing ties to the land and a tradition of growing their own food. In response, the IRC has launched a nationwide program that helps refugees establish community gardens, farmers markets, food pantries and farm-based businesses. more »

Koffi Ogou was forced to leave Togo to escape political violence, eventually resettling in Chicago. But when he heard about the New Roots program in Phoenix, he decided to relocate once again and now is a central figure at the Gila Farm Cooperative there. more »
