Tomorrow night we ring in the new year. As you make your final charitable choices for 2011, please consider the International Rescue Committee.
Only two days remain to double the impact of your donation. Special friends of the IRC will now match all online gifts, dollar-for-dollar, up to a total of $1.9 million — through December 31.
Right now, IRC staff members across the globe are reaching out to people who have been driven from their homes by conflict, persecution, violence, or natural disaster. With your gift we can bring aid and hope to one more child, one more family, and one more community at their time of greatest need.
• In the midst of the famine in East Africa, IRC doctors and nurses in Kenya are treating 500 refugees daily -- many of them malnourished children.
• In the Democratic Republic of Congo, the IRC is providing health care, counseling, and safe haven to Congolese women and girls who are recovering from sexual attacks.
• In the United States, the IRC is helping resettled refugees meet the challenge of adapting to life in a new country.
More than 90 cents of every dollar we spend is used to support IRC programs all over the world.
The IRC is proud of the recognition we have earned for our good stewardship of donated funds. Once again Charity Navigator gives the IRC four stars, its highest rating. The American Institute of Philanthropy rates the IRC A+, a rare distinction. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance notes the IRC meets all 20 of its charity accountability standards. And Forbes Investment Guide names the IRC one of only 10 "Gold Star" charities.
Your donation today, no matter how large or small, can make a difference in the lives of people in need.
Thank you for your support, and best wishes for a peaceful and happy New Year.
