July 4, 2012
By The IRC
Congratulations to Yussuf Yussuf, one of 86 people from 44 countries who will be taking the oath of U.S. citizenship today on the steps of Thomas Jefferson's Monticello.
A refugee from Somalia who was resettled by the International Rescue Committee, Yussuf works as a custodian at Monticello, which was the Charlottesville, Virginia home of the author of the Declaration of Independence and third president of the United States
In this video, Yussuf shares his pride in fulfilling his dream of citizenship on July 4. "It's Independence Day for the Americans," he says, "and I'll be among them too."
