An estimated 140,000 people have been displaced by the fighting in and around the city of Goma.

Rhoda Mukamba (second from left) lost her husband and her home when mobs attacked her Kenyan village in January 2008 after a disputed presidential election. With new elections scheduled for this coming March, the IRC is working with partners and communities in Kenya to avert a repeat of the violence.

Hundreds of people displaced by recent fighting between rebels and the Congolese army are crammed together on a school floor on the outskirts of Goma. They are the lucky ones: Many have no roof on their heads.
