Jun 13, 2013Briefing from the field recording: Syria Crisis Update - June 11, 2013
After more than two years of civil war in Syria, a humanitarian disaster is gripping the Middle East. Some two million Syrians have been forced from their homes due to ongoing conflict, and more than one million have fled to over-burdened neighboring countries. With over four million Syrians now in dire need of assistance, current international aid levels are drastically insufficient. On June 11, 2013 the International Rescue Committee (IRC) hosted an exclusive phone briefing on the Syria crisis and the IRC’s response. Speakers included George Rupp, IRC President & CEO; Mike Young, IRC regional director, Caucasus, South Asia, Middle East & North Africa; Alexandra Brosnan, IRC senior policy & advocacy Officer; and Asmaa Donahue, IRC women’s protection & empowerment technical advisor.
