The International Rescue Committee accepts monetary gifts and gift cards. These gifts allow us the greatest flexibility and we can use the funds to the maximum capacity. We also accept Metro tokens.
We accept new mattresses, box springs and headboards. IRC has an agreement with Brown’s Furniture Company, Inc, in Washington DC. You can call and order a bed set for a refugee over the phone and they will then deliver it to the family’s apartment. This is a unique way to make a donation and help a refugee feel welcome and at home. Twin beds generally run about 100$ and full beds are a little bit more. If you are interested in donating a bed, the phone number is (202) 387-7369 or you can go to [http://www.browns-furniture.net/].
We welcome new or gently used furniture and household goods. The following is a list of items that we need the most:
Sets of Drawers, shelves or other unit for storage of clothing
Tableware, kitchen utensils, can-openers, knives, cutting boards
Silverware drawer organizers

Are you part of a group looking for a way to get involved?
Your group could put together an "arrival kit" for refugees. Please see the list above of items that we need to make a refugee's apartment a home. You could also do a drive, gathering together donations of one specific item or category.
