Aid Groups in Congo Urge Intensified Support for Peace Process
Fifteen international aid organizations working in the Democratic Republic of Congo have issued a statement applauding accomplishments in the peace process and urging an intensified international effort to find durable solutions to the crisis.
The groups expressed concern about the escalation of violence in Ituri in eastern Congo and fear about new troop movements and offensives. "It appears critical at this time, when a durable solution to the Congolese crisis is within grasp, to double all efforts to put a definitive end to the war," reads the statement.
The aid organizations said an end to the hostilities, peace and security, the end of impunity and reconciliation between communities and countries involved in the conflict are prerequisites for efforts towards sustainable development.
