IRC, Aid Coalition Urge Donors to Use Funding to Promote Sudan Peace
OSLO, NORWAY The IRC and four other partner agencies working in Sudan today urged donor governments to spend wisely and to give funding in such a way that it promotes good governance and sustainable peace across the country, including in the war-torn region of Darfur. The recommendations were issued by the coalition in a press release ahead of next week’s donor conference on Sudan in Oslo, Norway.
The groups also called on donors to recognize the crucial role played by Sudanese civil society in creating a lasting peace, especially in monitoring the peace process.
“Donors should use their influence to ensure that Sudanese organizations have sufficient funding, capacity and space to operate effectively,” the coalition says.
