IRC Ethiopia Assists Research on Children and Armed Conflict
IRC Ethiopia has been working in collaboration with the Harvard Program on Humanitarian Policy Conflict Research to assess the impact of emergency education on children's psychosocial adjustment. Approximately 500 Kunama teens and caregivers were surveyed in October 2001 to establish baseline data. The same people will be surveyed again after IRC's emergency education project has been operating for eight months. The research will provide a greater understanding of how education influences the recovery and healing process for refugee children and should eventually provide valuable information that will help to improve the effectiveness and quality of educational programming.
