IRC Pays Tribute to Paul Newman
In a recent fundraising appeal, Newman wrote, “I have played a variety of roles over the years, but none has been as important and personally rewarding as the real-life role I play as a supporter of the International Rescue Committee.”
“The funds Paul Newman helped us to raise have made it possible for the IRC to save countless lives in crisis zones around the world,” Rupp said. “We are proud that the IRC was among the beneficiaries of his extraordinary philanthropic endeavors."
When the movie “Road to Perdition,” his last major on-screen performance, had its New York premiere in 2002, Newman arranged for the IRC to share in the evening’s proceeds.
He also narrated a seven-minute documentary about the IRC in 2003.
