IRC, Sister Agencies Offer Recommendations on Congo to UN Security Council
The International Rescue Committee, joined by Care and Refugees International, has provided the UN Security Council with recommendations for addressing the ongoing crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The recommendations accompanied a letter the three organizations sent last week to Ronaldo Mota Sardenberg, permanent representative of Brazil to the United Nations. Ambassador Sardenberg is serving as president of the Security Council for the month of March.
The letter was also sent to 18 Security Council members - including the United States, United Kingdom, Japan and Romania - as they review the mandate for renewal of the United Nations peacekeeping mission (MONUC) in Congo. The current mandate expires on March 31.
