New Figures Indicate Steep Decline In U.S. Refugee Admissions
From October 1, 2001 to February 28, 2002, U.S. refugee agencies resettled only 5,403 refugees, down from 25,403 during the same period last year.
IRC's numbers mirror the national trend with 600 refugees resettled this year compared to 3,167 in the same period the previous year, says Jackie Mize-Baker, director of resettlement processing in the IRC's resettlement department.
