SmartMoney Magazine Cites IRC As A Top Charity

In its annual survey of charities, SmartMoney magazine has again listed the IRC as a leader among humanitarian organizations in the category of international relief and development.

The list of leading charities is published in the December 2003 edition of the magazine http://www.smartmoney.com/theagenda/index.cfm?story=20031111-charity, which is the personal finance publication of the Wall Street Journal, and is designed to assist readers who are making year-end charitable contributions.

The key criterion in the rankings is the percentage of the charities' spending devoted to programs. SmartMoney noted that 92.4 percent of the IRC's outlays in 2002 went to programs.

The IRC has also been recognized again by Forbes magazine. In its 2004 Investment Guide, now on newsstands, Forbes chose the IRC as one of 10 "gold-star" charities worthy of consideration by readers. http://www.forbes.com/maserati/246.html

Charity watchdog agencies also give the IRC high marks.

The IRC receives four stars from Charity Navigator, which provides ratings and information about 2,600 nonprofit organizations on its Web site, www.charitynavigator.com

The IRC also receives a grade of "A" from the American Institute of Philanthropy. http://www.charitywatch.org/

In addition, the IRC meets all the standards of the Better Business Bureau of America's Wise Giving Alliance. http://www.give.org/
