Tom Schick, Sarah O’Hagan Elected Co-Chairs of International Rescue Committee; Glenda Burkhart, Scott Pelley Elected Co-Chairs of IRC Overseers
Sarah O’Hagan and Thomas Schick have been elected co-chairs of the board of directors of the International Rescue Committee. In addition, Glenda Burkhart and Scott Pelley were elected co-chairs of the IRC Overseers, a companion body that advises the board on matters of policy, fundraising and advocacy.
The IRC is a nonpartisan, nonsectarian humanitarian relief and development organization that carries out programs in over 40 countries and assists refugees resettled in the United States through its network of offices in 22 cities.
Ms. O’Hagan, a former journalist and public affairs professional, joined the IRC board in 1998 and has chaired its Development and Program Committees. She has traveled frequently to visit the IRC’s international programs.
Mr. Schick is Executive Vice President, Corporate and External Affairs, of the American Express Company and has been a member of the IRC’s board since 2000. He has chaired its External Relations Committee and its Nominating and Governance Committee.
Ms. Burkhart, a former Senior Vice President of the Reader’s Digest Association, is a management consultant who specializes in organizational development and corporate restructuring. She is co-chair of the IRC affiliate the Women’s Refugee Commission.
Mr. Pelley, a 10-time Emmy Award winner, is a correspondent with the CBS News program 60 Minutes. He has been a member of the IRC board since 2008 and has been active in IRC affairs since 2005.
The elections took place at a meeting of the IRC Board of Directors and Overseers February 24 at IRC headquarters in New York. Ms. O’Hagan and Mr. Schick succeed Jonathan Wiesner and Alan Batkin as board co-chairs. The most recent co-chairs of the Overseers have been Winston Lord, Tom Brokaw and Maureen White. Mr. Lord had been serving as chair since last November.
