Transcript: Madeleine Albright on liberty
Thanks to Sparked.com volunteer Dennis B. for transcribing this video interview with IRC Overseer and former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
Interviewer - Why did you wear that pin today?
Madeleine Albright - Well, I wore the pin today—it's obviously the Statue of Liberty. And we all think about what it means. We are operating in a world where there are an awful lot of international homeless people that are forced to move because of violence in their countries or economic conditions. And, of course, the saying on the Statue of Liberty is to give me your tired and you poor, and I think that America really needs to remember that we are the strongest because we have brought in so many people who want to live in america and share what we have and contribute to it. And so I thought it was a good time to wear the Statue of Liberty.
