Don't just recycle your tree - Recycle your gift cards

January is a time for fresh starts and new resolutions. After the holidays, we often find ourselves discarding items we no longer want or need. When was the last time you looked through your wallet, purse, or that drawer in the kitchen to see what unused gift cards are hiding there? Those gift cards that you never remember to use can be put to excellent use in helping refugees prepare for their new lives in this country.

Have cards for stores you don’t frequent? Used part of the value but don’t intend to spend down the remainder? It’s estimated that billions of dollars worth of gift cards are purchased each year that are never redeemed. IRC can help you buck that trend!

Your donation of a valid gift card will provide you with a tax-deductible donation equal to the remaining value on the card. And it will give IRC Los Angeles clients the means to purchase a shirt or dress for a job interview, shop for books to help them learn English or prepare for recertification in their career, buy needed furnishings and supplies for their home, or even grab a cup of coffee while they meet with their volunteer mentor.

Recycling your gift cards is easy!  Mail them to Gilbert Lopez, Resource Developer, at IRC LA, 425 E. Colorado St., Suite 550, Glendale, CA 91205. Please let us know, if possible, the value of the card and how to contact you. For additional information, or if you have questions, you can also contact Gilbert at 818-550-6220, ext. 6546 or via e-mail at Gilbert.Lopez@theIRC.org.
