First Thanksgiving Celebration
IRC Atlanta is proud to host a First Thanksgiving Feast for refugees from around the world who will experience this great American holiday for the first time this year. The feast will include all the traditional American fare – turkeys, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, pies-among other holiday favorites. Refugees of all ages will share this special meal and time of thanks with IRC staff and volunteers on November 21st.
“It’s not only an opportunity to share an American tradition, it’s also a way to show newly resettled refugees that we’re glad they are here,” said IRC Volunteer Coordinator Amber Mull. “These families have survived incredible odds and deserve a round of thanks – and turkey!”
It’s not just American traditions that will be shared. Traditional music and dancing from around the world will be entertainment as families enjoy the meal together.
If you’re interested in volunteering or sharing your favorite dish with refugee families, please contact Amber Mull at Amber.Mull@theirc.org or 678-636-8928. The IRC is looking for individuals and groups to contribute traditional Thanksgiving dishes for the feast.
