School Specialist Intern

The School Specialist intern works with the School Specialist to provide liaise between newly arrived refugee families and local schools, ensuring that each child gains access to education and has a positive start to his or her academic journey in the U.S.   

  Responsibilities may include: • Providing refugee families with information on topics such as school attendance, classroom behavior, hygiene, academics, and parent involvement • Communicating information to schools • Coordinating transportation for children and families • Assisting to reduce communication barriers • Maintaining tracking systems for student information and school progress • Assisting clients to navigate higher education options • Providing general support to the School Specialist   Qualifications: •Strong verbal communication skills and excellent telephone etiquette • Strong computer skills, particularly MS Office suite and databases • Flexibility and strong organizational skills with an ability to work independently • Comfort with working in a cross-cultural environment • Must have a valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and be able to transport clients • Experience working with school systems a plus      For more information or to apply, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at or 678-636-8928.
