Thanks to Community Partners, Thanksgiving Feast a Success

Sunday, November 15, 2009-Today, over 200 refugees, volunteers and donors gathered in Decatur with International Rescue Committee staff to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday. This annual IRC Atlanta event introduces the year's newly arrived refugees, who came from countries such as Congo, Myanmar, Bhutan, Iraq, Ethiopia, Cuba and Colombia, to this uniquely American celebration of family, food and plenty.

This year's feast was generously sponsored by employees from Turner Broadcasting System, who provided all the food and beverage, from turkey to apple pie. More than 30 Turner employees set up and served the feast to our refugee guests. They enjoyed getting to know some of the refugee families.

Decatur Presbyterian Church hosted the event, thanks to the generosity of Reverend Todd Speed and church members.

The afternoon's festivities culminated in a performance by the Burmese Kareni Youth Dancers. Find photos of the event on our Facebook page.
