$10,000 Grant Received from Lockhart Vaughan Foundation for Youth Education
The IRC HOPE Refugee Youth Program is excited to announce that it has received a $10,000 grant from the Lockhart Vaughan Foundation to fund its newcomers summer program and its Back to School event in August. The newcomer program runs 8 weeks from June until August and is specifically designed for refugee students who have either arrived within the past few months or will arrive this summer. This program will serve 30 refugee students including Bhutanese, Iraqis and Eritreans.
The 3 HOPE Youth Program teachers and their teaching assistants will focus on intensive English instruction and school preparation. The Back to School event is the culminating event for a series of parent workshops with different refugee populations that focuses on school engagement. Students will also recieve a bookbag of school supplies to prepare them for the year.
