New Staff Join the Baltimore Team
The IRC in Baltimore office is experiencing exciting growth in programs and refugee arrivals and recently hired new staff members, several of whom are former interns.
Casey Swegman is the new special needs care coordinator with the Public Health Team. Most recently, Casey worked for the Church World Service Overseas Processing Entity in Nairobi, Kenya, where she had traveled throughout East Africa as a caseworker since November 2009. Casey previously interned with the IRC in Silver Spring office.
Raffi Wartanian, our new volunteer coordinator, brings with him impressive professional and volunteer work experience including most recently leading and training the ‘4K for Cancer’ cross-country bike ride to raise funds and awareness for cancer patients and caregivers at Baltimore’s Hope Lodge.
Former Baltimore intern, Kelly A. Brooks is the newest resettlement case worker. She previously worked as a human resource management assistant for Dynis LLC and a customer service senior representative for Verizon.
Lauren Waldt and Margaret Whitehead are also former interns and newly hired as case work assistants. A recent graduate, Lauren was heavily involved in student government at her university. Prior to interning at the IRC, Margaret worked as a teacher in Tamil Nadu India for the non-profit Families for Children.
Virginia Weyer spent the last year at the IRC in Silver Spring as their administrative assistant and has now taken the post of interim administrative manager. While living in Kenya, Virginia was the project co-director and fund raiser for The Ray of Hope Foundation and tutored and raised funds for the Saint Vincent DePaul School.
Finally, Ruben Chandrasekar was recently promoted to the new position of community integration program manager. The aim of the Community Integration Program is to assist newly arriving refugees and their receiving communities in Baltimore to intentionally work together to create a secure, welcoming and multicultural society.
If you are in the office, please welcome the new staff!
