VOLUNTEER PROGRAM VISTA
The Volunteer Program VISTA will develop organizational resources and systems to consolidate, expand, and partake in the recruitment, training, placement, and support of family mentors, employment mentors, and occasionally support the Volunteer Coordinator with related duties connected to the internship program.  These efforts will provide critical support to newly arrived refugee families, ensuring they have the tools necessary to become self-reliant, acculturate effectively, and find gainful employment while setting self-directed short, medium, and long term goals for professional and educational development.  The Volunteer Coordinator VISTA will also assist in the development of a framework in which volunteer opportunities are established for newly arrived refugees.
The Volunteer Program VISTA will help to strengthen the IRC in Baltimore’s family mentoring and employment mentoring programs; and provide ancillary support to our internship program. The VISTA will develop and implement resources and systems for recruiting, training, placing, managing, and supporting mentors and volunteers who assist our Case Managers, Employment Specialists, Health and Youth programs as well as our support staff.  These resources will supplement resources being utilized in the IRC network nationwide. As well, the VISTA will be instrumental in putting systems in place to ensure that the volunteer program is running smoothly and efficiently. Building capacity will entail the placement of pending mentor volunteers and developing a system to continue organizing and growing our mentorship programs, building off past work including our referral system and volunteer application.  The VISTA will also regularly update the volunteer database and participate in coordinating the logistics of seasonal volunteer recognition and recruitment events.  The VISTA will organize volunteer development trainings by identifying guest speakers and creating materials.  Furthermore, they will develop a method to improve recording, tracking, and organizing program data such as volunteer activity logs and partnership status.

This is a full-time, one-year assignment administered through AmeriCorps VISTA.  The position is projected to begin on Monday, July 16th.  Interested applicants should send a cover letter/resume to raffi.wartanian@rescue.org and holly.leon-lierman@rescue.org.  Questions can be answered at 410-558-3182 or raffi.wartanian@rescue.org.
