Nursing Students Lend Extra Support
As part of IRC’s continuing relationship with the University of Maryland’s School of Nursing, 8 nursing students recently completed a 12-week community/public health rotation with the IRC’s Pregnancy Support Program. The nursing students spoke with expectant mothers about appropriate and timely prenatal care, assisted the women with scheduling medical appointments, enrolling in the WIC nutrition program, and accessing community material assistance resources. The students also assisted the IRC with a cultural competence in obstetric care project, through the development of fact sheets communicating the cultural concerns of specific refugee groups during the pregnancy and post partum periods.
