International Rescue Committee (IRC)

Welcome by Robert Warwick, IRC Baltimore Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the IRC Baltimore webpage! Every year, thousands of refugees are granted entry by the U.S. They step off the plane into an unknown country and future. They have very little, but they have their dignity, hope and determination.

Since July 1999, the Baltimore Regional Office has resettled over 2,800 refugees/asylees from over 52 countries throughout Central Maryland. We assist newly arrived refugees achieve self-sufficiency through case management services, employment services and offer English and job training courses in partnership with Baltimore City Community College. By providing refugees with the tools they need to regain control of their lives, the IRC is helping to restore hope and build futures for those who have fled war and persecution.

An initiative of the Maryland Office for Refugees and Asylees (MORA), the IRC is located in the Baltimore Resettlement Center (BRC) and works in partnership with: Baltimore Medical Systems, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, Baltimore City Community College, Baltimore Department of Social Services and Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area. The BRC provides a unique opportunity for refugees to receive services at one location during their transition period.

This year, we celebrate our 10th Anniversary. As we move into the next 10 years, we would like to extend an offer for you to become more involved in our work through advocacy, volunteering and donations. As you look through our local programs, please keep in mind that we need your help in order to continue providing high quality, essential services to refugees/asylees resettling in Maryland. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,

Robert Warwick
