Gift Certificates And Winter Clothes Are a Perfect Way to Help Boise Refugees
Before we know it, snow will be flying and the holidays will be upon us. People are already calling and asking “how can we help?”, “can we adopt a family”, or “where will our efforts be best put to use?"
This year, we would like to suggest for families to receive gift cards to stores such as Winco, Wal Mart and Fred Meyer to meet their food, household and clothing needs. Sometimes our clients are inundated with “stuff”, when what they really need is the autonomy to shop for themselves and pick out their own things, which in itself is an educational opportunity.
We are not suggesting that people don’t shop and wrap presents for our families; it’s just that maybe they shop a little less and then augment the gifts with a gift certificate or two.
Issues of food security are at the forefront of everyone’s minds, not just for our clients, but for every American on food stamps. Your gifts cards can help refugees in real need.
Another issue, before the holidays, is that we are in need of gently used winter coats for all ages. We got a large donation in April and the coats are already gone. Any winter wear is appreciated, such as gloves, boots and hats. Most of our clients come from tropical climates, so our weather is a real shock to them. We usually have vouchers for a local thrift store to give to people, but right now all the vouchers have been given away. Any help you can give to us in that area will be most appreciated. We can accept donations at our office, Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM: call us at 208-344-1792, or email Shannon Davis Jones: Shannon.email@example.com.
We know we can count on you, Boise. Thank you in advance for all your continued help, interest and compassion.
